From the President's Desk

As I complete my fifth year as president of ORU, I give thanks to God for enabling us to grow in so many areas. I am also grateful to you for the vital role you have played and continue to play in our success by undergirding the University with your prayers and finances.

For the first time in the history of Oral Roberts University overall enrollment has exceeded 5,000. This is an exciting day for ORU! We have worked hard to market our unique combination of outstanding academics in a Christian environment and I am thrilled to see this level of success. I am confident that our growth will continue as we strive to become the "university of choice" for those seeking an excellent education with a Christian foundation.

I am also pleased with the exhaustive self-study we recently completed in preparation for the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) accreditation site visit which took place in November. This effort involved every area of the ORU community including alumni. We carefully analyzed all components of the University, determining strengths as well as areas which needed improvement. All indications suggest that the report we will receive from the NCA will be positive.

Successful leasing efforts of CityPlex Towers significantly contribute to our financial strength. Considering current leases and pending contracts, 90 percent of all available space is under lease. Just four years ago, CityPlex had a 12 percent occupancy.

Lindsay and I recently launched a new, live, nightly television program. Something Good Tonight -- The Hour of Healing airs Monday through Friday from 8 to 9 p.m. (CST). Some time ago, God placed it on my heart to host a live, interactive healing program, and we are amazed at God's blessing on our efforts. Over 60 stations currently air the program, and more are being added weekly. I am especially pleased to report that Something Good Tonight airs across the nation at minimal cost to the Ministry

As I reflect on the past year and look forward to what 1998 has in store, I am especially thankful to God for your faithful support. Your prayers and contributions help to ensure ORU's continued success in fulfilling the vision God has given us.

Sincerely,
Richard L. Roberts
